Afgha From independence to re-dependence - a re-reading of a century of bitter experience of foreign intervention

As the 106th anniversary of Afghanistan s independence approaches, political analysts consider it a bright chapter and a turning point in the country s contemporary history. They believe that 106 years ago, on 28 August 1919, Afghanistan regained its independence from Britain under the leadership of Shah Amanullah Khan. However, they believe that Shah Amanullah Khan s new plans, reforms and programs, which were inspired by his foreign trips and were not compatible with the indigenous culture of the people, once again threatened the country s independence. Eventually, the hidden interference of outsiders, especially the British, along with internal discontent, led to the fall of Amanullah Khan s modernist regime.
