In response to the move by three European countries to activate the trigger mechanism (snapback), the foreign ministers of Iran, Russia and China signed a joint letter addressed to the Secretary-General and President of the UN Security Council. The letter was drafted on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tianjin, China, and contains the three countries’ firm positions in opposing Europe’s efforts to restore previous Security Council sanctions against Iran.
