The UN Security Council Sanctions Committee has removed the name of Ahmed al-Sharaa, also known as “Abu Muhammad al-Julani,” the current president of Syria and leader of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group, from its sanctions list. The decision is part of the amendments to the sanctions related to ISIS and al-Qaeda adopted under the resolutions of the body.
